By BBN Staff: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and Immigration, Eamon Courtenay attended the extraordinary meeting between Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Central American Integration System (SICA) and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, H.E. Filippo Grandi.
Courtenay highlighted that the COVID-19 pandemic presents new and exacerbated challenges for refugees and the national systems that protect them.
He called for urgent, resource-driven humanitarian and development cooperation to strengthen the region’s response.
Courtenay specifically reported on Belize’s related priorities, challenges, and continued performance to advance its obligations to prevailing international humanitarian and refugee accords.
