Ex-Attorney General purchased “reinforced” office furniture

Posted: Monday, February 15, 2021. 1:00 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Senator and former Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte purchased $3,500 worth of office furniture that was reinforced for his size and weight on leaving office, former Prime Minister Dean Barrow revealed.

The offer, made in October, was approved by the manager of the Vehicle Care Unit Ruperto Vicente, supported by Financial Secretary Joseph Waight.

According to Barrow, Secretary Waight may have advised Peyrefitte to also buy a laptop and iPad as part of the lot; certain chief executive officers also bought their equipment, which contained their personal information and emails.

Secretary Waight pointed out that it would not be worth it to get the laptops back and wipe the entire system for use by incoming officials.

Barrow said he was not made aware of the laptop sales until after the General Election, for which Secretary Waight apologized.
