By BBN Staff: On Friday, February 12, the Belize Mayors’ Association held its final meeting for the 2018 to 2021 cohort of Mayors.
The meeting was held at the Bull Frog Inn, Belmopan.
During the meeting, the Ministry of Local Government provided recognition awards to the mayors who are not contesting the upcoming municipal elections, including former mayor Kevin Bernard, now a member of the National Assembly and Minister of Youth, Sports and E-Governance, who served as mayor of Orange Walk Town from 2021 to 2020.
The other award recipients were:
Mayor Khalid Belisle – Belmopan City Council – 2015 to 2021
Mayor Daniel Guerrero – San Pedro Town Council – 2012 to 2021
Mayor Ashton Mckenzie – Punta Gorda Town Council – 2015 to 2021
Mayor Marconi Sosa – Benque Viejo Town Council – 2018 to 2021
Bernard thanked the mayors on behalf of Oscar Requena, Minister of Local Government, and extended well wishes to the mayors and the Association.
Bernard also reiterated the Government of Belize’s support to finalize and legislate critical municipal development initiatives that have been on the table for the last few years.
UNICEF also used the opportunity, via a correspondence that was read by Director of Local Government, to thank the mayors for their support and commitment for the implementation of the Sustainable Child Friendly Municipalities Initiative.
UNICEF reassured its commitment to continue supporting the program and the welfare of the children of Belize.
