By BBN Staff: This week, the Belize City Magistrate’s Court accepted a plea from Gary Young, 24, to a charge of simple drug possession as opposed to drug trafficking, and gave him a fine because it was his first drug-related offense.
Young appeared before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford yesterday and pleaded guilty to “possession simplicita” for 67 grams of marijuana, 7 grams above the threshold for a drug trafficking charge, which police found him with last Friday.
He was fined $700 plus $5 cost of court, which he must pay by June 15, or spend seven months in prison.
