Police baffled by the shooting of Jerome McLaren

Posted: Tuesday, February 16, 2021. 5:28 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Police say that they are having trouble establishing a motive for the murder of Jerome Mclaren, 21, which took place in Belize City last night.

MacLaren was sitting on a motorcycle in a yard on Cleghorn Street around 8:20 p.m. when someone came and shot him several times, killing him on the spot.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Alejandro Cowo of the Eastern Division Crimes Investigation Branch, said that police have been interviewing family members in an attempt to find out if McLaren had been in any trouble recently.

“We have a few incidents with McLaren but not to that extent that we suspect that he has been involved in other criminal activities,” Cowo said. “We spoke to different people that were there and also family members to inquire from them if at any time Mr. Mclaren may have been threatened…but up to now we cannot give you a definite motive as to why he was shot.”

Officers were canvassing the area earlier today in an ongoing investigation.
