Posted: Tuesday, February 16, 2021. 5:32 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Belize Police Department has still not definitively identified the body found in a shallow grave along the Hummingbird Highway yesterday.

While the body is thought to be that of missing Ladyville resident Patrick Garrido, 24, Assistant Superintendent of Police Alejandro Cowo, says that the investigation is still ongoing.

“So far, a positive identification has not been done yet but based on the clothing and some tattoos that the person has, it resembles that of Garrido,” Cowo said.

Cowo went on to say that the person that was traveling with Garrido on the day he turned up missing was in police custody but was later released based on the information he provided.

The body was found after 9:30 a.m. between Miles 51 and 52 on the Hummingbird Highway, by a group of men who were hunting in the area.
