By BBN Staff: This week, Mexican authorities discovered over 200 Central American migrants in an abandoned trailer, and a Belizean was among them.
The Daily Mail reports that the trailer was discovered on Monday on a stretch of the Raudales-Ocozocoautla highway in the Veracruz city of Las Choapas. The truck carrying the trailer had begun to experience mechanical problems and the driver ran off leaving some 233 men and women trapped inside.
Eventually, police patrolling the area discovered the trailer and let out the migrants, 191 of whom were from Guatemala. There were also 19 Hondurans, 11 Salvadorans, 11 Nicaraguans, and just one Belizean.
They were all given medical attention and then handed over to Mexico’s National Institute of Migration for processing.
