U.S. State Department advises citizens to ‘reconsider travel to Belize due to COVID-19’

By BBN Staff: The United States Department of State has issued an updated travel advisory on Belize dated February 12.

The Department continues to advise travelers to exercise normal precautions in Belize.

The State Department is urging Americans to ‘reconsider travel to Belize due to COVID-19’.

In addition, it encourages them to exercise increased caution in Belize due to crime. “Some areas have increased risk,” it noted.

The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has issued a level 4 travel health notice for Belize due to the pandemic.

It notes that limited transportation options are available, and some businesses are operating, usually with significant restrictions.

Quarantine measures or entry restrictions are in place for certain U.S. citizen travelers.

“All visitors should maintain an elevated level of due diligence and reduce their exposure to crime-related risks by practicing good safety and security practices,” the notice explained.

The Embassy’s website reminds all visitors about curfew and other restrictions related to COVID-19.

“ Land borders and seaports remain closed. Grocery stores and other stores are currently open with limits on the number of shoppers allowed. Restaurants are only open for delivery services with no inside dining allowed. Churches, social events, and private parties that would include guests outside of the immediate family who are living together are limited to no more than 10 persons,” the website noted.
