Corozal Mayor meets with Ports Commissioner

By BBN Staff: Mayor of Corozal Town, Rigo Vellos held a meeting with Ports Commissioner, Major H Gilbert Swaso (Ret’d), and Port officials in Corozal Town on Saturday February 20, 2021.

The Mayor and Port officials conducted an inspection of the municipal dock, and discussed ways to strengthen the relationship between the authorities, the Corozal Town Council and the Belize Ports Authority, to improve the management and use of the public facility.

According to the council, as of December 18, 2020, the amount of boat companies utilizing the pier to dock for business-activity increased to 2, being Thunderbolt and Belize Sea Shuttle Express.

During their discussions, the officials emphasized the potential for increased business activity at the pier and greater need for discussion and strategic planning.

Discussions included the possible infrastructural improvements to the dock for the benefit of boat-ferry companies as well as passengers.

The municipal dock is a public facility under the authority of the Corozal Town Council.
