Stake Bank announces construction of new cruise ship dock

Posted: Thursday, February 25, 2021. 6:31 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Today, Stake Bank Enterprise Limited announced that construction has begun on two large cruise ships docking piers at its facility Port Coral.

With construction underway, Stake Bank is expecting a cargo vessel carrying steel pipe piles to be arriving from China early next week.

Stake Bank notes that the two docks being constructed will be able to accommodate four of the largest cruise class vessels in the tourism industry. Stake Bank said that the company handling the construction will be Inter-Coastal Marine Inc., which is reportedly renowned for successfully constructing many huge over-water piers.

The company added that the port is scheduled to be complete by the first quarter of 2022, which will be timely as many Belizeans will receive COVID-19 vaccinations in 2021 and be ready for when the increased inflow of tourists hit Belize.

“This definitely will bring back thousands of jobs immediately, which will drive downwards the unemployment of the country,” Stake Bank said.

The company notes that there are currently large buildings, a “massive” swimming pool, a shopping plaza, and land improvements already under construction at Stake Bank island, providing Belizeans with jobs, and the promise of even more jobs once the facilities are up and running.

“Additionally, by giving the cruise ships the ability to dock and eliminating the dangerous mid-sea transfers to the tender boats it is projected that almost all the manifested passengers will disembark the cruise ships and are expected to take the popular excursions to many of the historic and fun sites across the country.”

In tandem with the construction of the docks, Stake Bank also announced that it is finalizing its engineering plans for the construction of the causeway that will connect Belize City to Stake Bank Island (Port Coral) via North Drowned. The causeway will be a two-lane, vehicular elevated bridge that will allow for continuous access to and from Stake Bank Island (Port Coral), eliminating the need for tendering operations.
