By BBN Staff: Today, Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, H.E. Gerardo Argote held a meeting with Minister of Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform, Henry Charles Usher, in a show of friendship between the two countries.
The Government of Belize reports that the meeting was focused on deepening the close ties between both countries during challenging times.
Belize and Venezuela have enjoyed friendly diplomatic relations since 1989. Notably, Belize is one of the countries that acknowledge Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro and the rightful president, instead of the United States-backed Juan Guaido.
Belize also participated in Venezuela’s Petro Caribe program and owes more than $400 million in loans dating back to 2013, the majority of which was used to fund various infrastructure projects.
