Two-year-old from Orange Walk found apparently drowned

By Aaron Humes: A two-year-old, Ruth Maria Hernandez of Trinidad, Orange Walk District, apparently drowned in a pond on a farm in the village on Thursday afternoon, according to Police.

Little Ruth was playing with other children outside of her house while her parents were inside eating. After about ten minutes, her father, 34-year-old Henry Hernandez went looking for her but could not find her inside one of her usual hiding places, an old bus in the yard.

After further searches, Ruth’s older brother Herson Hernandez discovered her body in a pond about 30 feet from the house. She was found submerged, face down. After Herson and Henry retrieved the little girl from the pond, she was given cardio-pulmonary resuscitation but was unresponsive.

Ruth Maria Hernandez was eventually pronounced dead at the Northern Regional Hospital in Orange Walk Town in the evening and a post-mortem examination has been scheduled.
