By BBN Staff: The Corozal Bay constituency has been without representation in the National Assembly, since the tragic loss of its Area Representative David “Dido” Vega last year, but this week that changes.
In just three days, Corozal Bay constituents will go to the polls to elect their municipal representatives and their new Area Rep as well. The 5,712 registered voters have to choose between the People’s United Party’s Elvia “Elvie” Vega Samos, sister of the late Dido Vega, and the United Democratic Party’s former four-term Corozal Town Mayor, Hilberto Campos.
Politically, the PUP seeks to once again solidify the dominance it achieved in the 2020 General Elections and restore its overwhelming majority in the House of Representatives to 26-5. Meanwhile, the UDP sees an opportunity to gain a small increase in its standing in parliament.
Regardless of the outcome, the people of Corozal Bay will be the ultimate beneficiaries, as they will once again be represented at the National Assembly.
