By Ruben Morales Iglesias, Belize City: The oldest runner ran the most during February, according to the Placencia Splash Running Club.
At 69, Wanda Stakutis, ran 399.42 kilometers (248.19 miles) more than a hundred kilometers than her closest competitor to win the February virtual long-distance run.
The runners run at home registering their time and distance on their health apps which are connected virtually with the organizing Placencia club.
While Stakutis ran in Placencia, second place finisher Consuelo “Chickie” Espat did so in San Ignacio. She ran 272.01 kms (169.02 miles). Nearby in Esperanza, Ana Lopez ran 268.1 kms (166.59 miles) for third place.
Carmen Castilla of Orange Walk was fourth running 235.7 kms (146.46) miles, while the fifth-place finisher Lucelly Ramos was in Belize City with a total of 207.46 kms (128.91 miles).
The U-19 category was won by Tridean Martinez, who tallied 140 kms (86.99 miles). Keely Faux, 128 kms (79.54 miles), was second in Sittee River and Kaylin Monterroso, third with 120 kms (74.56 miles).
In total, 49 runners took part during February. Together they ran 4,804.99 kms (2985.68 miles).
