Dey Di “Abstract” Dr. Manza!

By: Rudolph A. Neal: Now, for quite some time, I watched silently in utter dismay and sheer disbelief as dey pippl di try abstract the very good and reliable Dr. Manzanero! A lot has happened since and clearly, quite a bit of isms and schisms were perpetuated towards him. Now, for the most part, we all watched the “jankunu dance” as it all unfolded and as they carefully concocted and meandered their stages of politicking. But, like idle hopefuls, we watched and waited and waited and watched. Well it all came to a head when it was announced that Dr. Manza would be placed on “administrative leave”.

Aye! I tell you… old pippl woulda seh: “what a sekestre!” But, boy, I tell you, I am not surprised. I however, am flabbergasted at the the sheer level of disrespect and disregard for the good doctor who navigated us through the most crucial and pivotal times of this pandemic. No just come could tell me how everything is alright, cause they haven’t seen the brunt of it. I tell you, when this virus was new to us and started to spread seemingly unabated and information was few and far between, it was Dr. Manza who quelled our childish fears and navigated us through!

It doesn’t matter to me who came after and why they did; Dr. Manza is the name that we trust and will remember. He is the person I will tell my children and grandchildren about. And this is nothing personal, this is facts. Belize trusted Dr. Manza and relied on his frequent reporting on an almost daily basis. He was always calm, knowledgeable, reassuring and so trust worthy. He is the grandmother you call when all else is falling apart because you know (he) will calmly quell your fears and guide you through.

Now to put the very good doctor through all this trouble after he served us so well is an outright shame! It’s a total disgrace, a travesty to say the least! And it smells foul — it stinks rotten! In essence, after di man gi wi his all, wi tun round and kick ah ina ih rear end? No sah! No way this can be okay or right or justifiable! This is bananas, absolutely nonsense, I tell you! And we cannot stand for this. He stuck with us as a country and as a people and he faithfully, dutifully and diligently served us well. I mean, is this how we repay him?

Now, I am not saying that he was the perfect doctor and did everything the way some others would have wanted. But I am sensible enough to know that we are all humans and nobody is perfect! I am also sensible enough to know that these trumped up accusations are senseless. It’s not as if Dr. Manza was given a sort of COVID-19 study guide to prepare for this pandemic. When COVID-19 washed up on our shores, he did the very best he could to navigate us through those uncharted waters, utilizing worn out gears and gauges that were made available to him at the time. So we owe him a great deal of respect and should treat him with much decency! We don’t just bring him under disrepute and kick him to the curb like that!

This is NOT okay! This is some nasty game that is being played and it smells foul— it cries injustice! This is not the Belize that we dreamed of and hoped in. This is not the spirit of cooperation that has united us as a people. This is bananas, outright ludicrous! I wonder if it is a salient attempt to distract us from the more persistent and prevalent ails that plagues us. We need to refocus our ideals and put the effort where needs be and concentrate our momentum on rebounding. Too many people are suffering and in strife and we are targeting a man who by all means and measure, served us so well — with much dignity, valor and distinction!

Leave Dr. Manza alone and let’s salute the man for the pound he contributed and for the stellar work he did. Numerous are the hills on the road to recovery ahead and steep are the mountains that we must climb to turn things around. Focus on what matters and give Dr. Manza the credit he deserves; and put idle gimmicks aside!
