Elderly American couple robbed at gunpoint on the Young Gyal Road in Teakettle

By Aaron Humes: An elderly American couple was the victim of a home invasion early on Sunday morning on the Young Gyal Road in Teakettle, Cayo District.

77-year-old Beatrice Smith and her husband, 81, were asleep around 2:15 a.m. when they were awakened most rudely by two robbers.

Police say the men, armed and masked, demanded money and proceeded to bind the couple with duct tape, ransack the house and steal various items including cash before escaping.

The cops say they have several leads and have detained two persons, but they will have to work without the benefit of either surveillance footage or identification by the victims, as the house was dark and the men took care to conceal identifying features. Investigations continue.
