By BNN Staff: The Ministry of Health and Wellness ( MOHW) began administering COVID-19 vaccines to priority groups this week and have managed to give shots to over 400 people thus far.
The MOHW issued a notice today that a total of 417 people had been vaccinated by the end of Tuesday, March 2.
The ministry started off its vaccine drive on Monday with Nurѕе Саѕіldа Воwmаn, Неаd оf thе СОVІD-19 Unіt аt thе Каrl Неuѕnеr Меmоrіаl Ноѕріtаl; Dr Маrсеlо Соуі, Сhаіr оf thе Nаtіоnаl Іmmunіzаtіоn Тесhnісаl Аdvіѕоrу Grоuр (NІТАG), аnd Dr Еrіс Вrаdlеу, Неаd оf Іntеrnаl Меdісіnе аt Каrl Неuѕnеr Меmоrіаl hоѕріtаl аnd lеаd рhуѕісіаn аt thе СОVІD-19 unіt, being the first to receive their shots.
On Wednesday, February 24, the Government of Barbados donated 1,000 Astrazeneca COVID-19 vaccines.
Prime Minister john Briceno said that healthcare workers are the top priority to receive their shots. Briceno noted that teachers are another priority group so that schools can reopen, and also committed to vaccinating some 8,000 tourism front liners, in an effort to help the industry rebound from the 2020 shut down due to the pandemic.
