National Women’s Commission salutes all elected women

Posted: Thursday, March 4, 2021. 7:24 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The National Women’s Commission and the Ministry of Human Development, Families, and Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs issued a statement today saluting all 24 women who were elected to office in the March 3, 2021 elections.

The Ministry extended congratulations to Elvia Vega Samos on her victory as the first woman to be elected from Corozal District to serve in the National Assembly.

The Ministry also congratulates Sharon Palacio on her success in Belmopan as the first woman mayor of the Capital City and applauds all the women elected to municipal office across the country.

There is a total of 23 women who will now serve at the municipal level, and this makes up 34 percent of the newly elected municipal seats.

The Ministry recognizes this step forward in addressing the need for more women representation in office.

“Together, we will stand strong as we make progress towards the national development of our beautiful country,” the Ministry noted.
