Edmond “Clear The Land” Castro accuses Marconi Leal of knocking him down, Leal denies it

Posted: Friday, March 5, 2021. 10:46 am CST.

By BBN Staff: The bad blood between PUP House of Representatives member for Belize Rural North Marconi Leal and UDP ex-Minister of National Emergency Management Edmond “Clear The Land” Castro, who has also represented the same political division, just won’t wash away.

Yesterday, Castro formally made a police report claiming that Leal knocked him down on the Phillip Goldson Highway by the Burrell Boom Cut-off.

Castro, who is also a cyclist, told 7 News that he was doing his daily morning ride by Mile 14½ near the HRCU new housing site when Leal pulled beside and bumped him.

“I identified the vehicle to be that of Marconi Leal, so he pull up beside me but very close and he start to curse at me and tell me stuff,” Castro told 7 News that he returned the courtesy. “The last thing he told he is I will pay somebody to broke up your RA and he took his vehicle and he was already about 6 inches from my shoulder and he took his vehicle and he swerved into me and all I could have done was to put out my hand as to reduce the impact. So, then I flipped over on my back, flip off the handle and the edge of the road is about maybe about a foot and then by front wheel burst, breaks broke up, peddle damaged, I flipped over and when he did that, he drove off. So I got up after about 2 minutes or so and I stop a vehicle that was coming, luckily the person stop, one Victoria Wade from Sandhill and she asked me what happened and I told her and then I called Chester and he said, go and make the report to the police.”

Castro said he was in pain and had to go to Belize Medical Associates where he said was treated and x-rayed.

“This is not an allegation this is a fact, the police still have my bicycle at the police station. See the medical form here, I went to the police station on the advice of commissioner of police and I made my police report and they gave me a form for the doctor to deal with. He’s the area representative, he’s my area representative but every time he sees me, he always, I think he is very frustrated, and he is trying to take his frustration out on me, very frustrated fellow, I feel sorry for him, it’s not the first time.”

When 7 News’ Cherisse Halsall told him she was going to talk to Leal to get his side of the story, Castro responded: “Well I hope he stops call himself a Christian.”

And coincidentally enough, that’s what Leal said denying the Castro allegations: “This is unbelievable and something I would never do. For one, I don’t curse, I consider myself a Christian, I go to church on Sundays, I don’t curse, this is unbelievable. You know I passed Mr. Castro on the road like almost every day and I’m telling you I would never do anything like this. I don’t know if he still can’t over the fact that the people of Belize Rural North placed their hope and trust in me to lead them, hence the reason he is trying to tarnish my reputation but all I can tell you this afternoon is that he is lying. All I did I asked my driver to just slow down,”

Leal said he slowed down because Castro had thrown comments at him on municipal elections night while coming out of the St. John’s Vianney polling station: “I didn’t follow him up, so this morning when I saw him riding, I told my driver just pull up right beside him but I don’t know if he got jumpy or anything and he just ride off the road and he stand up over his bicycle and made his call but I just tell him, just stop.

“I am telling you he is lying but all I ask Mr. Castro to do is please stop throwing remarks at me. The election is gone, I don’t want to hurt Mr. Castro, I consider him my friend, he’s a big man but I guess when he’s drinking, he would do things like that, but I am telling you that he’s lying on me, he’s just trying to tarnish my name.”

Leal said that to cover himself, he also filed a police report: “I also went to the police station in Ladyville and I filed my report because when I heard about this, I said man I can’t believe he would go that low.”
