New Belmopan City Council sworn in

By BBN Staff: Today, the Belmopan City Council swore in its new Mayor Sheran ‘Sharon’ Palacio and her Councilors.

The inauguration ceremonies were held virtually at 3 o’clock, due to the restrictions on gatherings still in place.

Palacio and her team captured a commanding 21,404 votes, completely eclipsing the 9,763 votes earned by the United Democratic Party’s Jacklyn Burns and her team.

Palacio herself polled 3,016 votes.

Speaking of what lies ahead of the Council, Palacio promised that the people of Belmopan would emerge from the election “like a phoenix” and “soar to the highest of heights.”
