By BBN Staff: Following a massive loss at the polls on Wednesday, United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Patrick Faber expressed his gratitude to those that did support his party in the March 3 Municipal Elections and Corozal Bay by-election.
Faber extended his thanks to party supporters today, urging all to “keep democracy alive,” as the UDP continues its constitutional role as the country’s opposition party.
The UDP came into the Municipal elections already reeling from tremendous rejection at the polls in the November 2020 elections, only to lose all nine municipalities and 65 of a total 67 seats.
The party had hoped to capture the seat in Corozal Bay and tip, ever so slightly, the power dynamic in the House of Representatives following the untimely death of Area Representative David “Dido’ Vega. However, history favored Vega’s sister Elvia Vega Samos, who became the first woman area representative after a decisive victory in the by-election.
