Senate to meet on “Ninth ah March”

By Aaron Humes, Belize City: The ninth of March, formerly Baron Bliss Day but now National Heroes’ and Benefactors Day, this year is a Tuesday.

The holiday will be celebrated on Monday per the Holidays Act, leaving the date free for a meeting of the Senate in Belmopan.

The previous meeting of the Senate was one of its shortest, with the deferral of second reading of a supplementary allocation bill from the House and ratification by motion of several uncomplicated treaties.

It is not yet known exactly what is on the agenda for this meeting but there have been several bills awaiting passage from the House of Representatives which will likely be debated at this sitting.

The Senate will also welcome a new member from the Opposition, former Mayor of Belmopan Khalid Belisle taking over for attorney Aldo Salazar.
