CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador offers support to new Turks and Caicos Islands Premier

By BBN Staff: CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has offered the organization’s support to the new the Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands Hon Charles Washington Misick and his Progressive National Party (PNP).

“As you embark on your term of office, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and its Secretariat offer support to you and your Government,” LaRocque said in his message of congratulations. “I look forward to welcoming you to the Conference of Heads of Government.”

On February 19, 2021, the PNP trounced the opposition winning 14 of the 15 seats, raking nine of the ten Electoral Districts seats and all five of the At-Large seats.

“Premier, your overwhelming victory indicates that you and your team have inspired great confidence in the electorate that your plans for the Islands are in line with their hopes and aspirations,” LaRocque said to Misick in his message.

The CARICOM Secretary-General also had a word of praise for the citizens of the Turks and Caicos Island for participating in the elections despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
