By Aaron Humes, Belize City: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced that Americans who are fully vaccinated can gather indoors with other vaccinated persons without wearing a mask or social distancing and that they can come together with those at low risk for COVID-19, such as vaccinated grandparents visiting healthy children and grandchildren, the Associated Press reports via Yahoo! News.
Today, Monday, the CDC announced the new guidelines in addressing a growing level of concern from those now vaccinated who want greater freedom to visit family, travel, and get back to their lives before the COVID-19 pandemic swept the world this time last year.
CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said, “We know that people want to get vaccinated so they can get back to doing the things they enjoy with the people they love.”
However, the health organization says behavior in public must still be limited even for vaccinated persons, who are not safe from COVID-19 if caught, only from some of its worse symptoms. Fully vaccinated persons are recommended to continue to wear well-fitted masks, avoid large gatherings, and physically distance themselves from others when out in public. The CDC also advised vaccinated people to get tested if they develop symptoms that could be related to COVID-19.
Officials say a person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the last required dose of vaccine. About 30 million Americans — or only about nine percent of the U.S. population — have been fully vaccinated with a federally authorized COVID-19 vaccine so far, according to the CDC.
The new guidance, it is hoped, will resolve questions like Do I still have to wear a mask? Can I go to a bar now? Can I finally see my grandchildren? asked by the small but growing number of Americans vaccinated since January, when authorized vaccine doses were first made available widely.
