Duchess of Sussex says son denied royal title over various concerns

Posted: Monday, March 8, 2021. 12:48 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes, Belize City: Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, wife of Prince Harry has claimed the British royal family refused to make her son Archie a prince and was also concerned about the color his skin might be when he is born, according to Reuters.

The Duchess told Oprah Winfrey in a Sunday evening special interview aired on CBS Television: “They didn’t want him to be a prince or princess, not knowing what the gender would be, which would be different from protocol and that he wasn’t going to receive security.”

She added, “In those months when I was pregnant, all around this same time, so we have in tandem the conversation of, you won’t be given security, not gonna be given a title and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”

Asked who the conversation was with, she refused to say: “I think that would be very damaging to them.” Earlier today, Oprah clarified on CBS that Prince Harry indicated that it was neither Queen Elizabeth II nor Prince Phillip that made the comments.

Meghan and Harry were conducting a wide-ranging interview on their decision to step back from royal duties.

Other claims made by the couple include Harry saying he was estranged from both his father, the Prince of Wales, and elder brother, the Duke of Cambridge – though he hoped to repair his relationships with both, and that generally, the couple struggled with the royal spotlight due to an ongoing dispute with the British tabloid newspapers – which left Meghan, in her words, with “suicidal ideations.”

The couple now live in California and are expecting a daughter later this year, as revealed in the interview.
