The PUP won the San Pedro municipal elections 7-0 over the United Democratic Party on March 3.
“I must express my unending gratitude to the people of San Pedro for their strong show of support,” mayor ‘Wally’ Nuñez said. “The actions of my people are a testament that democracy lives and is evident through the power of the ballot box. I am honored to be her on behalf of the people of San Pedro.”
“The reality is that the current economic situation is unspeakably awful in our island, but one might fail to realize that San Pedro and its people have fought many battles in the past. Our people fight from the heart, but no fight has proven to be as disastrous to the very fabric of our society as the COVID-19 pandemic. We shall prevail.”
Nuñez said that the San Pedro Town Council “will be joining forces with the private sector, governmental agencies, non-governmental agencies and organization to introduce plans and ideas in order to boost hope and improve the economic situation of our people.”
Belize Rural South Area Representative and Minister of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, Andre Perez, gave the welcome address in front of the mayor’s and councilors’ families and friends, and supporters of the People’s United Party.
