U.S. authorities say plane found with cocaine in Belize was registered in Texas

By BBN Staff: In February 2020, authorities made the largest cocaine bust in Belize’s history. Police found a private aircraft with 2,310 kilograms of cocaine. The plane was tracked from Venezuela until it landed in a remote area.

By the time officers arrived, the pilot had escaped and the plane remains in the government’s custody.

U.S. authorities now believe that the plane, and those similar to it, are connected to a company in Texas.

A small town with no airport, Onalaska has seen more plane registrations for years.

Yahoo News reports that an investigation revealed a $350 million international drug trafficking conspiracy.

Several news outlets covered the plane registrations and revealed that the company was connected to a plane that crashed into a home in Venezuela, killing four people inside and three aboard the aircraft.

That plane was piloted by a convicted drug trafficker and loaded with cash. It was registered in Onalaska by Aircraft Guaranty Corporation, the newspaper reported.

Authorities in the US have said that the use of US registered aircrafts for criminal organizations pose a clear danger for US security.
