Belize to play in FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup qualifying tournament in Costa Rica

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize draws Mexico, Panama, and Guadeloupe in the 2021 Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship (CBSC) to be played in Alajuela, Costa Rica from May 17-23.

The tournament qualifies the two Concacaf representatives to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Moscow Russia from August 19-29, 2021.

Belize was drawn in Group A at the official CONCACAF draw held in Miami, Florida, on March 8.

Belize will play Mexico on Monday, May 17, Panama on Tuesday, May 18, and Guadaloupe on Wednesday, May 19. (See schedule below.)

CONCACAF said that 12 of its Member Associations will compete in the tournament.

CONCACAF used the Concacaf Beach Soccer Rankings as of December 19, 2020, to distribute the teams into four pots, with the draw dividing the teams into three groups of four teams.

It’s not going to be easy for our boys since our team is the lowest-ranked in the group.

Belize is ranked 13 out of 41. Mexico leads the ranking followed by El Salvador. The United States is 3rd in the ranking, Panama is 4th, Costa Rica 5th, Bahamas 6th, Guadaloupe 7th, Trinidad & Tobago 8th, Guatemala 9th, and Jamaica 10th.

Turks and Caicos are 16th and the Dominican Republic 28th.

CONCACAF said “the 2021 CBSC will begin with a group stage, followed by a knockout stage. After round-robin play, the top two finishers in each group and the two best third-place teams will advance to the knockout stage. The two teams that reach the Final will qualify for the 2021 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.”

Group B: El Salvador, Bahamas, Guatemala, Dominican Republic
Group C: United States, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands

Wednesday, May 19: GLP-BLZ, GUA-DOM, TRI-TCA, MEX-PAN, SLV-BAH, USA-CRC

Quarterfinals:
Friday, May 21: 1A vs. 3B/3C (Match 19), 1B vs. 3A/3C (Match 20), 1C vs. 2B (Match 21), 2A vs. 2C (Match 22)

Semifinals:
Saturday, May 22: W19 vs. W22 (Match 23), W20 vs. W21 (Match 24)

3rd Place and Final:
Sunday, May 23: L23 vs. L24, W23 vs. W24
