By Zoila Palma: Minister of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government, Oscar Requena and CEO Valentino Shal, this week, visited the communities of Santa Familia and Billy White in the Cayo District.
The purpose of the visit is to discuss the issues affecting the villages and ways to help improve their way of life.
They were given a brief history of the villages and their water system’s structure, the challenges that are affecting the communities and their plan of action to develop the villages.
Chairlady of Santa Familia Village, Karen Carrias shared plans for growth in the village.
Among the plans discussed was the need for a preschool so that the children can have early childhood education.
In addition, the villagers need easier access to healthcare by having a health worker stationed at the outpost and more security by having a police officer stationed in Santa Familia.
The Ministry’s mandate is to transform the rural areas of the country and support community development.
“It is at the heart of the Minister that all people, especially in the rural communities have access to potable water, quality healthcare, education, security, wellbeing and economic opportunities. This will allow the villages to use their own assets to improve the quality of life of rural folks,” a statement from the Ministry said.
