Flood ravaged culvert near St. Matthew’s on the George Price Highway being replaced with permanent culverts

Posted: Saturday, March 13, 2021. 11:30 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Large permanent concrete culverts are being installed at Mile 38 on the George Price Highway near St. Matthew’s village after intense rains caused major damages last year.

In June 2020, the culverts on that portion of the Highway near St. Matthews Village had collapsed after intense rains affected the country.

At that time, the Ministry of Works said that the culverts had been in place for about 40 years and the area was not rehabilitated in 12 years.

At the time the culverts got damaged, a portion of the highway had washed away remained impassable until the Ministry concluded emergency works.

The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing has informed that permanent culverts have been set in place at mile 38 on the George Price Highway, and once fully installed it will prevent the road from washing away when the rains come.

The Ministry thanks its dedicated team and workers for their continued hard work.
