ComPol: ‘Channel 7 could face charges over false narco plane Facebook post’

Posted: Sunday, March 14, 2021. 6:48 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Channel 7 News is in trouble with the Belize Police Department following a report posted on the company’s Facebook page last night regarding a narco plane landing in Northern Belize.

Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, said today that there was never a narco plane landing and that Channel 7’s post was false, misleading, irresponsible, and a violation of the Laws of Belize.

“Police investigators have since been tasked to investigate this matter with a view to bring charges against the particular media house. Time and time again some media houses acted irresponsibly and feed the public false information.”

Williams said that police will not deny the media access to information; however, media houses must be responsible in their reporting to avoid creating chaos.

“Whenever private citizens spread false news they are dealt with according to the law, it is therefore only right that the media be held to a higher standard,” Williams added.

This is a developing story.
