By Benjamin Flowers: Commissioner of Police Chester Williams says that the Belize Police Department is conducting an internal investigation to determine the officers responsible for roughing up a minor who had already been in a traumatic experience.
Williams says that there is a video circulating which shows the minor, who had previously appeared in another video as he was being tortured by a group of men from Conch Shell Bay, and then being ruffed up during a police interview following the incident.
“The Belize Police Department denounced the action of those officers involved in that interview as such behavior contributed to re-victimizing the said minor who was already traumatized from his earlier experience,” Williams said. “The matter was further compounded when the police interview video was also leaked on social media.”
Williams called on the public to continue working with police towards ending child abuse in Belize.
Breaking Belize News reminds the public that sharing the video of the minor being tortured online is an offense under the Laws of Belize.
