By Aaron Humes: The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) has confirmed that former Director of Tourism, Karen Bevans, was terminated at its order from her post on Friday afternoon.
In a short statement issued this afternoon, the Board said its Board of Directors had met to consider Bevans’ further employment and decided unanimously that it was time for her to part ways. She was informed by letter from Board Chairman Evan Tillett that same day, as were BTB employees in a staff meeting.
The statement does not say whether Bevans’ termination was for cause, nor what happens to the remainder of her recently renewed contract and what benefits she accrued therein.
The Board does say it intends to fill the post in its plans, but Chairman Tillett will be acting Director, responsible for the management and leadership responsibilities of the BTB, a statutory body.
In collaboration with the private sector, the BTB team looks forward to the work ahead and commits to working closely with all stakeholders, including the team at the Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations to move the industry forward, the statement concludes.
