Ministry of Tourism rolls out new “COVID-19 dashboard” and “business toolkit” programs

By Benjamin Flowers: Today, the Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations (MTDR) unveiled two new programs in its ongoing efforts to help the tourism sector’s recovery, the Belize COVID-19 Tourism Dashboard Framework and the Belize COVID-19 Digital Toolkit for Tourism Businesses.

The Ministry explained that the dashboard was developed to provide “up-to-date” data indicators for the tourism sector from the MTDR and other third-party sources and provide updates in the areas of Public Health & Safety Updates; Economic Impact on Tourism Sector; Recovery Indicators and Best Practices for Re-opening.

Meanwhile, the digital toolkit is geared towards providing information and resources to small and medium-sized tourism businesses, which the Ministry said can be used to update and improve their online presence considering the changes caused by the pandemic.

The Digital Toolkit comprises of five topics which are: Content & Messaging, which includes three primary recommendations are offered for messaging – utility, community, and inspiration, as well as providing content ideas; Website Best Practices, with suggestions for optimizing website content in light of COVID-19; Social Media best Practices, with strategies for making the most of social media channels, namely Instagram and Facebook; Online business listings, which includes instructions and tips on updating third-party business listings to improve the quality and visibility of proles; and Digital Technologies, which focuses specifically on low-cost digital technologies that can be adapted by tourism businesses.

“Both these tools are possible due to a collaboration between the MTDR, the Belize Tourism Board (BTB), industry partners, and the George Washington University Graduate Program in Washington, D.C., U.S.A.,” the Ministry said.

The MTDR said that interested businesses can access the Dashboard and Toolkit via its website https://tourism.gov.bz/covidresources/ for more information.
