British High Commissioner visits San Ignacio Hospital

By Zoila Palma: On March 15, 2021, British High Commissioner, Claire Evans; Minister of Health and Wellness, Michel Chebat, and Pan American Health Organization/ World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) representative, Dr. Noreen Jack visited the San Ignacio Community Hospital.

The team was touring to see the progress being made on the SMART Hospitals Project.

The hospital is one of 5 health facilities in Belize that are being retrofitted under the approx. £5.5m project funded by the United Kingdom.

Other hospitals included in the program are Cleopatra White, Palm Center, Independence Poly Clinic, and the Isabel Palma Polyclinic.

The SMART project is about providing safer, greener, disaster-resilient facilities that will also generate operational savings.

The team met with Lily Guerra, Deputy Regional Manager and Dr. Fidel Cuellar, Chief of Staff at San Ignacio Community Hospital and discussed  the difference the project will make.

The project is scheduled to be completed in July.
