Punta Gorda Town Board driver shot dead at workplace

By Aaron Humes: 36-year-old Dennis Trapp of Punta Gorda Town, Toledo District, met his death earlier this morning at the one place he may not have expected it – his place of work.

According to police, Trapp was found motionless behind the wheel of a Toyota 4Runner SUV, his personal vehicle, on the compound of the Punta Gorda Town Board on Prince Street around 4:15 this morning. He had been shot multiple times to the chest, head and right foot.

Trapp had just reported for work as driver for the town garbage truck, but he was ambushed getting out of his vehicle by two armed men. Police pursued the shooters but they were able to escape on a motorcycle.

Trapp was pronounced dead about an hour later and police continue to look for the shooters as part of their investigations.
