By Aaron Humes: On the eve of the unhappy anniversary when, as Minister of Education, he closed all school activity, now-Leader of the Opposition Patrick Faber was publicly vaccinated for COVID-19 at St. John’s College Gymnasium in Belize City as part of the effort to return to normalcy.
Faber qualified for phase 2 of the National Vaccine Rollout Plan as both a parliamentarian and, he pointed out, a teacher (he was former vice-principal at Anglican Cathedral College but it is not clear if he has taken on any teaching jobs in a while).
The 42-year-old reported no immediate side effects and added his voice to those calling on Belizeans to be vaccinated, especially supporters of his United Democratic Party (UDP).
The UDP, he said, wholeheartedly supports the national vaccination plan as discussed among the Shadow Cabinet.
Faber is the second known parliamentarian to be vaccinated – Minister of Health, Michel Chebat, was the first – and no timeline has been announced for other parliamentarians to follow.
