United Kingdom’s Prime Minister to receive AstraZeneca vaccine

Posted: Friday, March 19, 2021. 11:14 am CST.

By Zoila Palma: Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson is scheduled to receive his first shot of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, CBS reports.

Johnson has also urged others to do the same, citing that UK drug regulators say that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks.

Johnson said in a conference on Thursday that the vaccine is safe, but catching COVID-19 isn’t.

Last April, Johnson was hospitalized for COVID-19 and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

Meanwhile, several countries around the world have suspended the use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine as a precautionary measure following reports of blood clots.

But, regulations in the European Union and the United Kingdom have indicated that there is no evidence that the vaccine caused blood clots.

The World Health Organization (WHO) also issued a statement saying that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks. WHO also recommended that vaccinations should continue.

The United Kingdom has recorded over 4.2 million cases of COVID-19 with 126,163 deaths.
