By Zoila Palma: Reports to Breaking Belize News (BBN) are that shortly before 10 last night, a couple from Bullet Tree village had just returned home from San Ignacio Town when they were held up by 3 armed men.
The couple had just parked their vehicle in their driveway, when they were approached by the men who forced them out of the front of their vehicle and put them to sit in the back seat.
The culprits drove the vehicle towards Calla Creek village and demanded the couple’s cell phones and money. After receiving the items, they released the couple about a half-mile up the Calla Creek Road.
Police responded shortly after and a chase ensued near Santa Rosa. During the chase, the police reportedly shot at the occupants of the vehicle.
While trying to escape, the vehicle got stuck in the mud near Santa Rosa and as a result the thieves abandoned the stolen vehicle and escaped on foot.
An investigation is ongoing.
