More than 15,000 people or almost 4% of Belize’s population vaccinated

By Zoila Palma: The Ministry of Health and Wellness vaccination campaign continues countrywide with 15,006 people in Belize having received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

The Ministry is now on Phase 1C and encouraging all persons with underlying conditions such as cancer, HIV and those requiring dialysis to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

During this phase, teachers and members of the media are also being allowed to receive the first dose.

Based on a population of 419,199 estimated by the Statistical Institute of Belize, the 15,006 people vaccinated represent 3.58% of Belize’s population.

The daily vaccination report indicates that 1,856 people were vaccinated on Friday. In addition, there are now only 50 active cases of COVID-19 in Belize.
