By Aaron Humes: 50-year-old Jose Juarez, a former Belize Defence Force soldier who is believed to be a mental patient, died under unusual and tragic circumstances on Friday night.

Police reports indicate that Juarez was seen before 9 p.m. Friday walking on the verandah of a green wooden house on Haulze Street – walking toward the kitchen area.

When resident Ivonne Brown went to check on him minutes later, she found him lying on the ground inside the bathroom, apparently bleeding from his chest and gasping for air.

He was immediately taken to hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.

A post-mortem examination will hopefully shed light on the circumstances of this sudden death as investigations continue.
