Posted: Monday, March 22, 2021. 12:00 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma: Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD) joins the world in commemorating World Water Day 2021.

The theme of this year’s World water day is “valuing water”.

“At FCD our educational campaign raising awareness of the Chiquibul Forests as the largest water catchment has been ongoing since 2007,” FCD noted.

FCD also shared that it has created a bi-national watershed alliance with the inclusion of 21 communities from both Belize and Guatemala who conduct public outreach, reforestation and clean-up campaigns throughout the year for protection of the Chiquibul, Mopan and Macal Rivers.

In addition, the 2020 FCD macro invert research in the rivers and streams of Chiquibul indicated good water quality while water quality testing in communities have began.

FCD reminds the public that it is our responsibility to keep our water fresh and safe.
