By Aaron Humes: Five armed men set upon a resident of San Ignacio Town on Sunday, binding her and then robbing her of personal effects and her vehicle.
Lillian Avilez of the Shawville area, San Ignacio, told police she had gone outside her home on Sunday morning around 8:30 to get something from her vehicle in the yard when the group of 5 approached her. One of the men was dark-skinned, the others Hispanic; all wore long-sleeved shirts and masks.
The group took her inside, tied her up and ransacked the house before fleeing in her Amarok vehicle.
Police established via surveillance footage that the vehicle was seen going west on the Santa Rosa Road toward Guatemala around 9 a.m. Contact has been made with Guatemalan authorities as part of the investigation by local police.
According to Assistant Commission of Police Joseph Myvette, it is suspected that some of the armed men responsible for this brazen home invasion and robbery are from Guatemala.
