By Benjamin Flowers: The ongoing negotiations with the Government of Belize and the joint union negotiating team continue, with members of the union claiming that GOB is adamant about making a 10 percent salary cut to teaches and public officers, and GOB responding that the assertion is untrue.
Earlier Breaking Belize News (BBN) spoke with a union source who noted that the Government’s position on the salary cut remained, despite the counter-proposal presented by the negotiating team; however, a senior government official reached out to BBN explaining that GOB has not taken such a hardline stance and that negotiations remain open.
The councils of management for the various unions are meeting this afternoon to discuss the government’s recently issued response to the counter-proposal.
BBN will be following this developing story.
