Late Sharon Matola to be honored at small private ceremony as per her wishes

Posted: Wednesday, March 24, 2021. 2:37 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma: Today, the Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center announced that the celebration of life of Sharon Matola will be done at a private ceremony with family members in deference to her final wishes and instructions.

“We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming and numerous expressions of love and appreciation from the Prime Minister, Hon. John Briceño, the Government of Belize, the environmental community, the wider Belizean society, and friends and supporters from abroad for our dear Sharon throughout her service to Belize, especially at this difficult time,” the Belize Zoo said.

In addition, the Zoo reminded Belizeans that Sharon has charged us as a nation with continuing her legacy in wildlife conservation in Belize, as there is much more work to be done.

In lieu of flowers, The Belize Zoo says that financial contributions be made through the Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center (https://www.altdzynshosting.com/belizezoo/index.php…), or its partner, the Belize Zoo and Neotropical Conservancy (www.bznccares.org/support for tax deductible donations).

The Belize Zoo said that plans to honor Sharon’s contributions and accomplishments will be announced at a later date.

May Sharon rest in peace.
