By Benjamin Flowers: The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology (MECST) today announced that it has gotten approval from Cabinet for the phased reopening of schools for face-to-face learning.
According to a memo issued today by the Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry to all general managers, pre-primary, primary schools, chairpersons, secondary schools, ITVETS, district education managers and president of the Belize National Teachers Union, schools will be reopening in two groups with Group 1 opening on April 12, and Group 2 reopening on May 10.
However, the reopening comes with some conditions. The ministry said that schools will be asked to complete a Phased-In Return Application Form, which will collate the demographics and the school’s plan for who will return and how (either shift system or staggered schedules). Schools will then schedule a visit from their District Education Center, for the school to be evaluated on the Green Light Standard Safety Checklist. With a passing score, schools who have completed all requirements will receive certification and will be able to begin to have their students return to the classroom.
The MECST notes that this format has the approval of the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
