By Rubén Morales Iglesias: No game was played in the Belize World Cup qualifying group on Day One of action as St. Lucia withdrew from the qualifiers last week. Neither FIFA nor Concacaf have said anything about it but yesterday Nicaragua saw no action because of the St. Lucia pullout.

Guatemala 1-0 Cuba

Our next-door neighbours, Guatemala won by the minimum, 1-nil, over Cuba off a set-piece. Guastatoya forward Luis Martinez got the ball in the box and made good on it in the 60th. Cuba tried to even the score but when Kevin Espino was ejected for a rough tackle, they found themselves handicapped. Cuba’s next game will pit them against Curacao, while Guatemala’s takes on the British Virgin Islands.

Saint Kitts and Nevis 1-0 Puerto Rico

Saint Kitts and Nevis beat Puerto Rico for a 1-0 victory at the Estadio Panamericano in San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic. A 42nd minute goal by Vinceroy Nelson gave the Sugar Boyz the victory.

St. Kitts will play against the Bahamas in their next game while Puerto Rico try to get back at home against Trinidad and Tobago.

Suriname 3-0 Cayman Islands

Suriname kicked off well with a 3-0 downing of Cayman Islands at home in Paramaribo. Shaquille Pinas scored a header off a free-kick. First-time Suriname captain Ryan Donk made it 2-0 in the 39th minute off a penalty kick. Young sensation Gleofilo Vlijter converted the final goal for Suriname.

Antigua and Barbuda 2-2 Montserrat

The Antigua and Barbuda 2-2 draw against Montserrat was settled in the first half when all goals were scored. Striker Lyle Taylor opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the seventh minute putting Montserrat ahead, but Eugene Kirwan tied in the 23rd.

Just three minutes later Taylor pushed the home squad ahead again, but to D’Andre Bishop leveled the game at 2-2 before the first half concluded.

Dominican Republic 1-0 Dominica

Playing at home the Dominican Republic were lucky to get past visiting Dominica 1-0 on a 52nd minute conversion by Fran Nunez.
