Ministry of Education: “Students should not be forced to wear a uniform”

Posted: Thursday, March 25, 2021. 11:08 am CST.

By Zoila Palma: The Ministry of Education has announced the phased re-opening of face-to-face classes to commence on April 12 and go through until September 2021.

Schools will first need to be certified safe by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology.

The process includes Ministry officials visiting schools to ensure they are adequately prepared to re-open. The Ministry will then certify the school safe to re-open.

The Ministry says that it will be clear but flexible in their approach and they understand that there is no “one size fits all” approach.

In addition, the ministry shared that schools will have varying approaches to reopening.

“Students should not be forced to wear uniforms or a particular style of shoes,” the ministry noted.

With relation to textbooks, the ministry reminds all schools that they must be considerate of financial challenges being experienced by students and their families.

Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca, reminded of the importance of face-to-face instruction and indicated that students have lost valuable classroom time.
