Canada, Curacao, Trinidad and Tobago win big in World Cup qualifiers Day 2

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Canada, Curacao, Trinidad and Tobago got off to a great start in the second day of the Concacaf World Cup qualifiers on Thursday.

Panama was rather ineffective against the visiting Barbados side until the 82nd minute when Jaír Cathy converted off a diving header.The 1-0 win is good enough however for the home standing Panamanians.

Haiti blanked Belize 2-0 in Port au-Prince in Group E off two corners kicks. Ricardo Adé converted the first in the 50th and Steeven Séance taking advantage of confusion in the box got the second in the 80th.

Belize play their second match on Tuesday against Turks and Caicos in the Dominican Republic.

Trinidad and Tobago had an easy day beating Guyana 3-0 even though they played their home game in the Dominican Republic in Group F. Levi Garcia made his way through the defenders to strike the first one for the Soca Boyz. An own goal by defender Sheldon Bateau who deflected a shot from Ryan Telfer put T&T ahead 2-0. But Tefler was not to be denied and nailed in the third when the Guyana keeper Anel Clarke fumbled the ball in the 44th minute.

In Group A, El Salvador’s La Selecta defeated Grenada 2-0 at the Cuscatlán Stadium in San Salvador in the last game of the day. Gerson Mayen struck a left foot goal to put El Salvador ahead and then assisted David Tony Rugamas for the second goal.

Next El Salvador will visit Montserrat, while Grenada play at home against theU.S. Virgin Islands.

Canada pumped five goals into Bermuda and won 5-1. Cyle Larin was the man of the night for the Canadians as he hit a hat trick. His first two strikes came of assists by Alphonso Davies in the 19th and 27th minutes. Richie Laryea made it 3-1 in the 53rd minute with his first national team career goal. Kane Crichlow scored Bermuda’s only goal when he nailed in a ball dropped by Canada keeper Milan Borjan. In the 68th Davies against served Larin again for the striker to complete his hat trick before Theo Corbeanu completed the 5-1 rout.

Curacao, coached by Guus Hiddinks, trumped St. Vincent and the Grenadines 5-0 in Group C. Playing at home Curacao started off on a high foot pressing the visiting side and soon got their opener from Juninho Bacuna. In the 17th  Anthony van den Hurk scored his first international goal while Bacuna added another in the 35th minute. Jarchino Antonio made it 4-0 before the half. Curacao lowered the intensity in the second period until Elston Hooi converted the fifth goal off a pass from Bacuna in the 87th.
