Government offers free medical services to women public servants to commemorate Women’s Month

By Benjamin Flowers: The Government of Belize is offering a number of medical services free of charge to women public officers, in celebration of Women’s Month.

GOB announced the initiative to public officers via an internal memo this week. Women public officers can access free mammograms, pap smears, dental checkups, and full physical checkups including blood and urine tests for the remainder of March.

The initiative comes from a collaboration between the office of the Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children, the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW), and the Ministry of the Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform (MOPSCPR).

The MOPSCPR said that the initiative is inspired by its mandate under the Public Service Regulations 2014, which mandates that the Ministry maintain a safe, healthful, and productive working environment for public officers.

“As such, time off is approved for female public officers to visit the participating health centers…” the Ministry said.
